Once the correct Sag has been set, the amount of Free Sag will indicate if the Spring Rate is correct. Free Sag is the amount the bike settles under its own weight (without the rider on board).
When the Sag is set correctly and the Free Sag is less than recommended, you need a heavier spring with less Preload. Use a lighter spring with more Preload when the Race Sag is more than recommended. Yes, this is the opposite of what most people think! The additional preload used with the lighter spring holds the bike higher than the stiffer spring with less preload.
> Friction - Bad!
The greater the friction, the greater the Stiction Zone measurement. The smaller you can make this number, the better. Be careful not to drop the bike too quickly or let it up too quickly when measuring (steps 3 & 4). This will make the Stiction Zone numbers worthless.

Magic Numbers - These are general recommendations but please keep in mind they are no universal “Magic Numbers”. Different bikes and riders will prefer different settings. These will generally be good starting points.
